Loco 19E Locomotive Fridge

The Loco 19E is a 19-litre refrigerator designed and manufactured by Minus40 specifically for the South African locomotive industry. In service across the country for over 20 years, it is built to be positioned next to the driver’s cab in locomotive classes 19E and 20E, operating on a standard 220V AC supply.

Constructed for the demanding transport and weather conditions of the African rail environment, the Loco 19E features a Chromadek pre-painted steel exterior with a stainless steel inner lining, base, and door. Polyurethane foam insulation supports temperature retention, while fan-assisted air circulation through an air distribution plate ensures even temperature distribution throughout the cabinet, regardless of how shelves are packed.

The digital temperature display with min/max recording provides continuous temperature visibility, and audible and visual alarms alert to any out-of-range condition. A voltage stabiliser is supplied as standard. The self-closing lockable door secures contents during transit, with a right-hand door hinge as standard and a left-hand option available on specification.

Safety

The Loco 19E includes audible and visual alarms that activate when the internal temperature moves outside the set range. The digital controller provides clear temperature visibility to support safe use in day-to-day operations. The self-closing, lockable door helps secure stored contents during transit and restricts access to authorised personnel. A voltage stabiliser is supplied as standard to help protect the unit against electrical supply variations common in locomotive environments.

Temperature Control

Temperature is maintained between 2°C and 8°C using a condensing unit with fan-assisted air circulation. Cold air is channelled through an air distribution plate to ensure even temperature distribution throughout the cabinet. A digital controller with LED display provides a continuous readout of current temperature, with min/max recording. Audible and visual alarms alert operators if the temperature moves outside the set range. Maximum ambient operating temperature is 32°C.
