3-Tier Mortuary Cabinet

3-body mortuary cabinet | chiller (2°C to 10°C) or freezer (−15°C to −20°C) | SS430 medical or SS304 forensic grade | integrated or remote refrigeration | up to 45°C ambient

The Minus40 3-Tier Mortuary Cabinet is a three-body-capacity refrigerated cabinet designed for hospital mortuaries, forensic facilities, and healthcare institutions. It can be specified as a chiller (2°C to 10°C) or a freezer (−15°C to −20°C), and is available in medical-grade SS430 or forensic-grade SS304 stainless steel to suit the application and required storage duration.

Medical-grade SS430 construction is appropriate for most hospital mortuary applications involving short to medium-term storage. Forensic-grade SS304 provides higher corrosion resistance and a more highly polished surface, and is recommended for longer-term storage in university, laboratory, and forensic pathology settings. Both variants are available with integrated (self-contained) or remotely mounted refrigeration. On integrated units, the refrigeration unit mounts at the rear on a swing door, allowing maintenance access without entering the cabinet.

All units feature PLC-controlled temperature display and monitoring with audible and visual fault alarms, lockable doors to each body tray, adjustable levelling feet, and fan-assisted forced-air cooling. Three standard 550mm medical body trays are included as standard. Obese 650mm trays are accommodated and recommended.

Adequate ventilation and a 40mm floor drain connection are required before installation. For environments exceeding 45°C ambient, specify the high-ambient variant at order.

Features

  • Three-body capacity — compact footprint for smaller mortuary facilities
  • Chiller or freezer configuration — specify 2°C to 10°C or −15°C to −20°C at order
  • SS430 medical or SS304 forensic construction — select the appropriate grade for storage duration and hygiene requirements
  • Integrated or remote refrigeration — choose self-contained or remote condenser to suit site layout
  • PLC digital controller — continuous monitoring with audible and visual fault alarms
  • Lockable doors for each tray — controlled access for each body position
  • Fan-assisted forced-air cooling — supports even temperature distribution
  • 3 × 550mm body trays included — obese 650mm trays accommodated
  • Swing-door maintenance access — integrated units allow service access without entering the cabinet

Safety

Audible and visual alarms alert staff to temperature or system deviations, enabling prompt corrective action. Lockable doors for each tray position support controlled access and reduce unauthorised handling. Continuous PLC monitoring supports operational oversight. Where electrical supply is unstable, a voltage stabiliser is recommended to reduce risk of interruption and protect components.

Temperature Control

Chiller configuration maintains 2°C to 10°C. Freezer configuration maintains −15°C to −20°C. Both are supported by fan-assisted forced-air cooling and a PLC (programmable logic controller) control system with a 0.1°C decimal display. Audible and visual alarms activate if operating conditions move outside parameters. Maximum ambient operating temperature is 45°C; specify the high-ambient variant for hotter sites.

Installation Requirements

  • Ventilation (required)
    • Chiller: 1200m³/hr ambient ventilation required
    • Freezer: 1700m³/hr ambient ventilation required
  • Power supply (required): 25A single-phase isolator required
  • Drain (required): 40mm floor drain connection required
  • Site conditions (required): If the area exceeds 45°C ambient, specify the high-ambient option (up to 55°C) at order
  • Space planning (recommended): Confirm the installation area will accommodate the cabinet footprint and service access (especially for self-contained units with rear-mounted swing-door refrigeration).
  • Body tray selection (recommended)
    • Consider substituting one or more standard 555mm trays for obese 655mm trays where required.
    • For long-term storage, consider forensic body trays (555mm or 655mm).
  • Power quality (recommended): Where supply is unstable, use a voltage stabiliser.
  • Professional installation required: Minus40 has a professional installation team available.

Use Cases

  • Hospital mortuaries
    • Short to medium-term body storage
    • SS430 medical-grade construction for standard hospital applications
    • Specify chiller or freezer configuration to suit facility requirements
  • Forensic & pathology facilities
    • Longer-term storage where corrosion resistance and hygiene are priorities
    • SS304 forensic-grade construction for university, laboratory, and forensic pathology settings
